Lucky Saint

Lucky Saint is a 0.5% Superior Unfiltered Lager, full of body and flavour but without the alcohol.

This Pilsner-Style lager is made with just four high quality ingredients -Pilsner Malt, Hallertau Hops, Bavarian spring water and Lucky Saint’s own single-use yeast. This combination of ingredients and their unique brewing process creates a full bodied lager with biscuity malt flavours and a citrus hop finish. One bottle contains just 53 calories and is vegan.

Before Lucky Saint, founder Luke Boasefelt the proposition of an alcohol-free beer was compelling, but the reality was disappointing. He couldn’t find an alcohol-free beer that he enjoyed drinking or a brand that made him feel good about choosing to drink a no/low option. So he decided to create his own.

He spent two years, working with six different breweries in three countries before deciding on the Lucky Saint recipe -a refreshing, 0.5% Pilsner-style lager.

The light bulb moment came when Luke discovered how important the filtration process, or lack thereof, was to the flavour of beer. Filtering beer strips out flavour and body and can leave you wanting more. He eventually found a brewer in Bavaria who shared the same goals as him -to create an alcohol free, unfiltered, Pilsner Style lager. After some trial and error and little bit of luck, Lucky Saint was born.

The Lucky Saint brewing process is unique to any other alcohol free beer. The Bavarian spring water and Pilsner Malt is converted with the utmost control into sugars using a step mash process. The Hallertau hops are then added before a two week fermentation process. Once fermented, the beer is then cold stored (or lagered) for a further 4 weeks allowing the flavours to mature. This maturation process allows themto leave the beer unfiltered, retaining as much flavour and character as possible.

Finally, before bottling, the alcohol content is reduced to 0.5% abv using vacuum distillation, the change in atmospheric pressure allows them to reduce the evaporation point of alcohol to just 40°C. Theresult is a 0.5% beer that is unfiltered, uncompromising and with the fullest flavour and body.

Made with the highest quality ingredients including Pilsner Malt, Hallertau Hops, Bavarian spring water and their own single-use yeast, and brewed following Germany’s strict Purity Laws , Lucky Saint has all the flavour and body of full strength brew -created to finally reward those who aren’t drinking with the beer they deserve.
The Pilsner Malt creates an initial full bodied biscuity feel, with the Hallertau Hops and pure Bavarian spring water invoking a citrusy crisp finish that has been recognised by Imbibe as the Best No and Low Lager in their 2020 Taste Awards.
In short – flavour. It doesn’t sound like much but this tiny amount of alcohol adds a great deal of flavour and body to the beer. It also allows Lucky Saint to achieve the flavour of a full strength beer, without adding any additives or adjuncts. And if you’re wondering how 0.5% abv can mean no next day hangover, there’s about the same amount of alcohol in a ripe banana as a bottle of Lucky Saint.
Lucky Saint was recently awarded their first Great Taste award and crowned winner of the Best No and Low Lager in the Imbibe 2020 Taste Awards. They are also the official beer for Dry January.
